18 May Digital CorNeR: Finalized the rooms for the realization of immersive content
The activities of the Digital CorNeR project, funded by the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, which involves collaboration between the lead partner MISTER Smart Innovation, managing entity of the CNR Technopole, Proambiente, the National Research Council, M.P.D.A. aps and the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation, continue.
The CNR Technopole, with its MISTER and Proambiente laboratories and CNR Bologna, has completed the construction of the four rooms dedicated to the project within the CNR Bologna Area, equipped with state-of-the-art technologies for the creation of immersive content thanks to the high performance of 5G networks.
Virtual Studio
The Virtual Studio will be used for the production of immersive content and includes: a panoramic green screen (180°+), 4k direction and cameras, ambisonic microphone, audio direction and monitoring, led lighting on beams, lighting control system and workstation to manage video streams up to 8k.
The equipment will enable:
realize immersive stereoscopic filming (3D 8K 360);
live interactive experiences in VR, developing on the most popular platforms and fruition systems (Unreal Engine, Unity 3D, Meta ecosystem…);
developing augmented reality solutions for remote events.
The Virtual Studio is connected via NDI network to all other CNR spaces developed under the project for the creation and enjoyment of digital and immersive audiovisual content.
5G-TUR Laboratory.
Proambiente, a research laboratory at CNR Technopole, has created the 5G-TUR Laboratory: a room set up with monitors, software, 5G network and 3D augmented reality viewers.
It will be possible to have a realistic experience and enjoy immersive video content created in recent months to promote environmental and coastal tourism.
The immersive content is created by harnessing the potential of OpenSWAP, Proambiente’s self-driving small electric catamaran, which is used in this case to capture footage with a 360-degree video camera in naturalistic settings and having the point of capture from the surface of the water. A video was made at Lake Castel dell’Alpi (San Benedetto Val di Sombro, Bologna), and other content will be made in picturesque naturalistic areas of the Ravenna Riviera.
Digital Events Space (SED)
The Digital Events Space (SED) is a place for the enjoyment of multimedia and immersive content, placed within the spaces of the Area library expands its offerings, through the wireless audio-video projection system and the possibility of hosting demonstrations of experimental virtual reality projects, thanks to the versatility of the spaces and the possibility of mirroring the immersive experience on the screen.
Room 216 of the Convention Center
Room 216 has been upgraded with a NewTek TriCaster professional digital direction system, a revamped audio system, and remote PTZ cameras.
Through the NDI (Network Device Interface) protocol, it is possible to use the local area network as a platform for interchanging low-latency, high-resolution audiovisual streams, thus enabling interfacing with the other rooms in the Convention Center, as well as the Digital CorNeR project spaces. Through NDI Bridge, this potential extends to the entire world wide web.
The room is also equipped with a multimedia interactive whiteboard, which allows interactive and engaging lectures to be administered. Through the director’s computer systems, content can be displayed via projection in the hall and simultaneously broadcast through major streaming platforms.
